The X-15 Class U13 & U15 is a complete hydrofoil set by Starboard. Front wing, fuselage, mast and stabilizer in technical construction for wing-foiling, SUP foiling or kite-foiling. The key piece of foil equipment — invest in a good foil before a pricey board.
The X-15 Class U13 & U15 is a complete hydrofoil by Starboard. The foil is the most performance-determining component: it defines your flight profile, usable speed range, pumping ease and overall feel on the water. A good foil + board combo always beats an expensive board with a mediocre foil.
What matters when choosing a foil:
- Front wing aspect ratio:
- Low Aspect (LA): smooth lift, easy to get airborne, ideal for beginners. E.g.: AK Trek.
- Medium Aspect (MA): versatile, speed/maneuverability balance. E.g.: AK Tracer.
- High Aspect (HA): long glide, racing, downwind, advanced riders. E.g.: AK Plasma.
- Front wing size (cm²): larger = more lift and easier to get up; smaller = more speed and maneuverability.
- Material: aluminum (affordable, heavy), carbon (premium, light, stiff).
- Mast length: 71-75 cm typical; 85-90 cm for racing/downwind.
How we recommend it at El Niño Mallorca. For your first foil, prioritize large size and low aspect ratio (easier to get airborne). Once you're pumping and flying comfortably, move up in aspect ratio or down in size. Component compatibility (mast + fuselage + wings) varies by brand and generation — always confirm before buying.
